Here we are with the 3rd wall art from the Graphical series, Ive named this "isolation" as it depicts a solitary Xeno contrasted against the glow of red LEDs. This wall art had been very much inspired by the incredible work of Canadian artist Denis Beauvais and his depiction of the Alien.
I think I stumbled onto the graphic novel Aliens: book 2 as a young teenager and it had such an impact on me the visuals pretty much stuck with me my entire life, at the time I had never seen artwork like this before let a lone in a comic book, every pane and every page was a complete work of art.
For me the lighting, the mood and the drama hooked me in and Ive followed Den's work ever since, I even have a signed print on my wall that scares the crap out the kids.
If you've not seen this work before Ive shared some images below, If you're a fan of fantasy or sci-fi you've probably stumbled on his work before but if you have not seen his work I absolutely implore you to look closer.
You can find Den's work at http://www.denbeauvais.com/ purchase prints through https://www.escapecollectibles.com/ of you can stalk him as I do on Facebook
Im hoping by sharing some of the images above it'll give a little context to the approach here with this wall art, to me Den's airbrush work on the lighting really sets the scene, the dark body of the Alien silhouetted with the light behind showcases the horrific biomechanical textures and how the front facing light sheens across the slime. This is something Ive been wanting to capture fro a long time.
I also wanted to create the frame to very much like a graphic novel pane with the wires weaving through forcing your eye to explore the work deeper. Textures in built into the 8X8" frame are made from a mixture of old 90's mobile phone circuits and as always the hive structures are hand sculpted.
I had real fun making this and I hope it sits a fitting tribute to one of my favourite artists, Ive posted some pics below for closer look and If you'd like to see some of the other horrors on offer please feel free to visit The Demon House Design Etsy store.
Thanks
Steve
